Frequently Asked Questions
at First Class Automotive
The following are common questions that our customers frequently ask us. We hope these answers
will help you avoid problems with your car. If problems do arise, keep in mind that for
us to diagnose your car, we will probably need to see the car and ask you detailed questions.
Q. Should I just drive off in the mornings or let the engine warm up a bit?
A. Today's computerized fuel-injection cars don't require a warm-up. Nonetheless, don't roar off. You shouldn't apply the accelerator too hard until the motor reaches operating temperatures. This normally takes about five minutes.
Q. My car comes dangerously close to overheating while driving in the mountains or idling in traffic jams. What can I do to help that?
A. Make sure your cooling system is flushed every other year and that the mixture is 50/50 water and coolant. If you still believe you have a problem, let a technician check it out.
Q. My steering wheel vibrates whenever I go over 60 mph. What's wrong?
A. Your front wheels are probably out of balance. If the vibration is felt in the seat and not on the steering wheel or dash, it is probably the rear wheels.
Q. How can I tell if my battery is getting weak?
A. There may be no warning sign. The new maintenance-free batteries don't allow you to check the cell fluids but you can clean the cables and terminal. If your battery has some age on it, have a technician check it out with professional equipment.
Q. Why do my tires make a humming sound on the highway?
A. You probably haven't rotated your tires in a while. Check your rear tires by running your hand in both directions across the treat. If it feels smooth on one side and jagged on the other, you have "saw tooth" wear and need to rotate your tires from the rear to the front.
